Amy Stubbs, a former standout at Zane Trace High School, has signed a letter of intent to further her education and continue her basketball career at Mount Vernon Nazarene College.
Stubbs, a 5-foot-10 forward/center from Chillicothe, Ohio, averaged 13.3 points per game and led the Scioto Valley Conference by grabbing 9.2 rebounds per game as a senior at Zane Trace. She also shot 48 percent from the field, 73 percent from the free throw line, and recorded 22 blocked shots and 47 steals as she was named to the All-SVC Third Team and the All-District Third Team.
"Amy is a fine addition to our basketball team," said MVNC head coach Steve Gregory. "She brings a winning attitude with her as she experienced a lot of success in her high school career at Zane Trace."
"Amy will compete for playing time at the center position," Gregory added. "She has a great attitude and work ethic. She will not really have to be an understudy. With the loss of (all-time leading scorer and rebounder) Tara Seiter to graduation, she will be counted on right away for a positive contribution to this team."
Besides her high school achievements, Stubbs was a member of a Gus Macker 16-18 year old team that won first place in 1998. She also participated in Junior Nationals at Ohio State University in 1999.
"I chose to attend MVNC because of the Education program, the basketball program, and the campus life as a whole," said Stubbs, explaining her college choice. "I really enjoyed MVNC when I visited, and I had a blast with the girls on the basketball team. I also felt really confident with Coach Gregory and his positive attitude towards me attending MVNC. The Education program has a tremendous placement rate and I am very excited to get started."
"I am very excited about Amy's signing her at MVNC," Gregory said. "Not only is she a very good player and student, she is a solid Christian as well. Amy is a great addition to the MVNC family."
MVNC wrapped up its 1998-1999 season with a 16-14 overall record. The Lady Cougars also finished fourth at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament at Oakland City (IN) University.
