Coy Lindsey, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men’s basketball team, has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for his performance in games during the week of January 11-17.

Lindsey, a 6-foot sophomore guard from Logan, Ohio, came off the bench to spark the Cougars to a 114-73 victory at Urbana University on January 16. With MVNC holding a 17-14 lead with 10:33 remaining in the first half, the former Logan High School standout began one of the best long-range shooting displays in school history. Over the next eight minutes, he canned 7-of-7 three-point attempts and added a layup to lead the team to a 60-34 halftime advantage.

Lindsey only played five minutes in the second half and did not take another shot. However, he still led all scorers with a career-high 23 points on 8-of-8 shooting from the field in 15 minutes of action. Ironically, he came into the game having scored only 24 points in 14 previous games combined.

The Cougars are currently 16-1 overall and 5-1 in the American Mideast Conference. The team is also ranked second in the latest NAIA Division II national poll. MVNC will return to action on Tuesday night when the team travels to Wilberforce University for a non-conference game that is slated to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
