"Three Cougars Named to NCCAA East Region Teams"

   Three members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men’s basketball team were named to the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region Teams when the awards were announced on Friday.

   Todd Sands, a 6-foot-7 senior center from Centerburg, Ohio, headlined the five-player First Team as he was named the NCCAA East Region Player of the Year. The former Centerburg High School star is currently averaging 16.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting 69.9 percent from the field (207-of-296). Sands also leads the team with 39 blocked shots, and he has recorded 39 steals and 52 assists.

   Brad Hostasa, a 6-foot-2 senior forward from Newark, Ohio, was selected to the Second Team. The former Utica High School standout is averaging 16.6 points and 5.3 rebounds per game and is shooting 58.1 percent from the field (155-of-267). Hostasa leads the team with 45 steals, and he has also dished out 60 assists.

   Ehren Hull, a 6-foot-2 senior guard from Canton, Ohio, joined Hostasa on the Second Team. Hull leads the Cougars in scoring (19.2 points per game), free throw shooting (76.9 percent), and three-pointers made (81). The former GlenOak High School product has also recorded 42 steals and 68 assists.

   MVNC (24-6) will return to action on Saturday when the Cougars will host Tiffin University at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinals of the American Mideast Conference Division II Tournament.
