"MVNC Fall Sports Honored at Banquet"

   Mount Vernon Nazarene College honored its women's volleyball and men's soccer teams with a banquet held on Monday, November 30, in the MVNC cafeteria. Both teams posted the best season in their respective sport's history with the Lady Cougars compiling a 54-7 overall mark and the Cougars finishing the year at 19-8.

   The women's volleyball team selected senior middle hitter Tara Seiter as the team's Most Valuable Player, while senior setter Mandy Hendrickx was the Cougar Award recipient. Seiter led the team with a school-record 780 kills and 302 blocks while also setting numerous career school records. Hendrickx led the team with 1,054 assists and 72 aces as she wrapped up her career.

   The men's soccer team selected sophomore forward Josh Robson as the team's Most Valuable Players, while sophomore midfielder Rick Collins was the Cougar Award recipient. Robson set school records with 32 goals and 77 total points during the 1998 season. Collins finished the year with three goals and 11 assists.

   Outside hitter Amanda Schumm was the recipient of the Cougar Sports Associates "Freshman of the Year" award after compiling 100 blocks, 180 digs, and 430 kills in her first season with the women's volleyball team.
