Dan Lueking, a soccer standout at Bishop Fenwick High School, has signed a letter of intent to continue his education and his soccer career at Mount Vernon Nazarene College.

Lueking, a native of West Chester, Ohio, was named to the Mid Miami League First Team and the All-South Sectional Second Team after scoring 10 goals and recording 15 assists in 21 matches his senior year. He was also selected as Fenwick’s Most Valuable Player. As a junior, Lueking was an MML and South Sectional Second Team honoree.

"Dan is a solid midfielder who I have seen play for several years and I am glad to have as part of our squad," said MVNC soccer coach Paul Furey. "He has good speed and skills, and he will add needed depth in our midfield. He comes highly recommended from his youth pastor as a model Christian young man, which we value greatly as part of our program."

In addition to playing soccer at Fenwick, Lueking led the Butler County area in three-point shooting in 1998-1999 as a member of the basketball team. For his efforts, he was named to the MML Second Team and was Fenwick’s Most Valuable Player.

"I feel that MVNC is a place where I can grow not only mentally and emotionally but spiritually as well," Lueking said. "I believe that it is where God wants me to continue my education and my socccer career."

The Cougars are coming off the best season in school history in which they posted a 19-8 overall record and finished third at the National Christian College Athletic Association National Tournament in their first-ever appearance. The team graduated four seniors but return a solid core of starters and key reserves which should lead to another exciting season in 1999.
