   Four members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's volleyball team were recently honored for their performances so far during the 1997 season when the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region coaches selected the All-Region team.

   Tara Seiter, a 5-foot-10 junior middle hitter from Waldo, Ohio, was selected as the 1997 East Region Player of the Year. Seiter leads the Lady Cougars in kills (512), kills per game (4.16), blocks per game (1.50), digs (440), and attack percentage (.368). She has also compiled 35 aces and 48 assists

   Tammy Custer, a 5-foot-8 outside hitter from Convoy, Ohio, joined Seiter on the All-Region team. Custer, the lone senior on the team, leads MVNC with 66 aces and a 3.70 digs per game average. She has also recorded 27 assists, 38 blocks, and 375 kills.

   Rachel Widener, a 5-foot-9 sophomore outside hitter from Elyria, Ohio, was also named to the eight-player All-Region team. Widener has posted a .329 attack percentage with 320 kills, 65 blocks, 56 assists, 10 aces, and 356 digs.

   Jessica Huffaker, a 5-foot-9 sophomore middle hitter from Grove City, Ohio, received Honorable Mention from the region coaches. Huffaker has contributed 37 assists, 86 blocks, 99 digs, and 198 kills. She has also recorded a 96.8 serving percentage.

   MVNC won the 1997 NCCAA East Regional Tournament at Roberts Wesleyan College this past weekend to earn an automatic berth in the NCCAA National Tournament on November 6-8. The Lady Cougars are currently 32-6 overall and are ranked sixth in the latest NAIA Great Lakes Region poll.
