Four members of the MVNC soccer team were recently honored for their efforts this season by being named to the National Christian College Athletic Association All-East Region Team.
Scott Dapprich, Todd Pearce, Petter Vaagenes, and Josh Bush were named to the All-East Region Team by the region coaches. MVNC head coach Paul Furey was also chosen as the 1997 East Region Coach of the Year by his peers.
Dapprich, a senior forward, had a record-breaking season for the Cougars with 25 goals and 67 points, both single-season records. He was also second on the team in assists with 17. Pearce, a sophomore midfielder, set a school record with 18 assists this season. He also found the back of the net 10 times to total 38 points for the year. Vaagenes, a senior midfielder, scored three goals this season and passed out nine assists. Bush, a junior goalkeeper, established a school record of his own with six shutouts.
Furey was honored for guiding the Cougars to a 14-6-1 mark in 1997 after a 4-14-1 mark a year ago. MVNC set school records for victories, goals scored, assists, and shutouts.
