Scott Savage, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's golf team, has been named the National Christian College Athletic Association National Player of the Week for his performance during the week of May 4-10. This is the second straight week that Savage has received this honor.
Savage, a senior from Mount Vernon, Ohio, was named the Mid-Ohio Conference Player of the Year after earning medalist honors at the 1998 MOC Golf Championship on May 7-8. He fired a 223 over 54 holes to finish three strokes ahead of the nearest competitor. He recorded rounds of 80, 70, and 73 despite rainy conditions. The Cougars finished third as a team behind Malone College and Shawnee State University.
Savage will now travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to take part in the 1998 NAIA Golf Championship that will be held May 19-22 at the Southern Hills Country Club. He becomes only the second MVNC player to compete in the national tournament as an individual medalist.
