Tara Seiter and Brad Hostasa, members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College women's and men's basketball teams, were named their respective sports Player of the Week by the Mid-Ohio Conference for games played during the week of January 5-11.
Seiter, a 6-foot junior from Waldo, Ohio, averaged 18.5 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Cougars to a pair of conference victories. She totalled 21 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and three steals in a 63-62 upset win at Urbana University, who was ranked #17 in NAIA Division II. She also added 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots in a 69-55 victory over Malone College.
For the week, Seiter shot 70 percent from the field and 50 percent from the free throw line to go along with seven assists, four steals, and two blocked shots. MVNC is now 9-9 overall and 3-2 in the MOC.
Hostasa, a 6-foot-3 junior from Newark, Ohio, racked up 46 points and 20 rebounds in a pair of Cougar victories. He had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists in a 96-85 decision against the University of Rio Grande, who was ranked #16 in NAIA Division I. He finished the week with a career-high 32 points and nine rebounds in an 88-64 win at Urbana University.
This was the second consecutive week that Hostasa has received conference player of the week honors. He was also named the National Christian College Athletic Association National Player of the Week.
Hostasa shot 61 percent from the field and 71 percent at the charity stripe for the week. He also added nine assists, five steals, and a blocked shot for MVNC, who is now 13-3 overall and 3-1 in the MOC. The Cougars begin the week ranked #7 in NAIA Division II.
