"Stevens Named to GTE Academic All-District IV Second Team"

   Mount Vernon Nazarene College forward Adam Stevens was recently selected to the GTE Academic All-District IV Men's Basketball Second Team in the College Division. The award is voted on by the sports information directors in the district (consisting of Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee). Any athlete attending an NCAA Division II or III or NAIA school in the district is eligible for consideration after he reaches his sophomore year.

   Stevens, a 6-foot-7 sophomore from Mount Vernon, Ohio, has led the Cougars to one of the best seasons in school history. Currently, the team is 24-5 overall and ranked #7 in the latest NAIA Division II poll. MVNC has also clinched at least a share of its first-ever Mid-Ohio Conference title with a 12-3 conference mark.

   For the season, Stevens has compiled impressive numbers despite only being in his second year of collegiate basketball. He leads the team in rebounding (9.5 board per game) and is second on the team in scoring (17.9 points per game), assists (100), and blocked shots (37). He has also canned 69 three-pointers, recorded 42 steals, and shoots 46 percent from the field.

   For his career, he has started in all 61 games that MVNC has played with the Cougars compiling a 48-13 mark during that span. As a freshman, he made the All-MOC Freshmen Team after averaging 9.0 points over 32 games. He also traveled with Athletes in Action to Europe during the summer of 1997.
