For the third time this season, Mount Vernon Nazarene College forward Brad Hostasa has been named the Mid-Ohio Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The latest award was given for his performance in games played during the week of February 2-8.
Hostasa, a 6-foot-3 junior from Newark, Ohio, averaged 26.5 points and shot 78.3 percent from the field as the Cougars took over sole possession of first place in the conference. He netted 24 points with seven rebounds in a 96-57 rout at Ohio Dominican College. Then, he poured in 29 points during a 102-82 non-conference decision at Wilberforce University.
For the week, Hostasa made 18-of-23 shots from the field including a 3-for-4 perfomance from behind the three-point arc. He hit 14-of-21 free throw attempts to go along with nine rebounds, four steals, and two assists. He also became the 20th MVNC player to reach the 1,000 career point mark during the win over Wilberforce.
Hostasa currently ranks second in the MOC in scoring (20.0 points per game), fourth in steals (1.9 per game), fifth in field goal percentage (55.4 percent), and tenth in rebounding (6.2 rebounds per game).
The Cougars are now 20-5 overall with a 9-3 MOC record. They are a game ahead of the University of Rio Grande, Tiffin University, and Malone College, who each have 8-4 conference marks. Walsh University also has a 7-4 MOC record.
