Amanda Schumm and Stephanie Keller, two former Parkway High School softball stars, have signed to continue their athletic and academic careers at Mount Vernon Nazarene College.

MVNC posted a 20-16 overall record in 1998 with only two seniors and two juniors on the Lady Cougars' roster. The team took part in the National Christian College Athletic Association national tournament and finished third out of eight teams.

Schumm and Keller, both natives of Rockford, Ohio, were members of the Parkway softball team that advanced to the state tournament during the 1998 season.

Schumm led Parkway in several categories during her senior year. On the mound, she compiled a school-record 19-1 pitching record with a 0.95 earned run average. In 118 innings of work, she fanned 150 batters, including a school-record 14 in one game.

As a hitter, Schumm posted a .457 batting average in 29 games with 42 hits, 39 runs scored, and 41 runs batted in. She holds the school records for most career doubles (29), most career homeruns (10), most career RBIs (96), and best career batting average (.467).

Schumm was named the Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year as both a junior and a senior, and was also selected to the All-Northwestern District First Team both years. She was named to the Division III All-Ohio Second Team as a junior and the Division III All-Ohio First Team as a senior.

Keller, an outfielder, batted .452 during her senior season. In 29 games, she compiled 42 hits, 29 runs, and 34 RBI. She tied a school record with five hits in a game and shared the single-season school record for hits with Schumm.

For her efforts, Keller was selected to the MAC First Team, the All-Northwestern District First Team, and the Division III All-Ohio Second Team as a senior.

Schumm and Keller also excelled in the classroom as both student-athletes were two-year members of National Honor Society. In addition, Keller was a three-time member of Parkway's Homecoming Court, while Schumm was a member as a junior and a senior.

Schumm, who was also a two-time All-Ohioan in volleyball, is a member of the MVNC volleyball team as well.

With the addition of Schumm and Keller to the Lady Cougars' lineup, the outlook for the 1999 season is one of optimistic excitement.
