Sean Barrett and Andy Heimbach, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College baseball team, were recently named the Mid-Ohio Conference and NAIA Great Lakes Region Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively for their performances in games played during the week of March 30-April 5.

Barrett, a senior outfielder from Brookville, Ohio, batted .579 in leading MVNC to a perfect 6-0 week in conference play and sole possession of first place in the MOC standings. He had 11 hits in 19 at bats with two homeruns and 10 runs batted in. He hit safely in every game with seven runs scored, a double, and a .949 slugging percentage. Barrett's top effort came in a twinbill sweep at Ohio Dominican College, ranked #24 in the NAIA, in which he was 5-for-7 with four runs scored and four RBIs.

Heimbach, a sophomore righthander from Wheelersburg, Ohio, hurled a pair of complete game shutouts over Ohio Dominican College and Malone College. In 14 innings, he allowed seven hits with nine strikeouts and two walks to improve his season record to 4-1. He already has three shutouts this season to push his career total to eight, just one shy of the school career record of nine held by Mike Patch. Heimbach was also named the National Christian College Athletic Association National Player of the Week for his efforts.

The Cougars are now 14-5 overall after winning six straight games. MVNC, the three-time defending MOC regular-season champs, are also 6-0 in the conference. They will return to action on Tuesday afternoon as they travel to Urbana University for a conference twinbill that is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.
