MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (5-18-2012) - The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team has added three more recruits for the 2012-2013 season as Julian Henderson, Malcolm Pittman, and Jacob Starinsky have each signed a letter of intent to continue their education at MVNU and play for the Cougars.

Henderson, a 6-foot-4 wing from Worthington, Ohio, was a two-year starter at Thomas Worthington High School and averaged 12 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists as a senior while shooting a team-best 36 percent from 3-point range. A team captain, he was named to the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division Second Team and the Columbus Dispatch All-Central District list as well as earning the TWHS Coaches' Award.

"Julian was a huge get for us because he has an outstanding skill-set to score the ball and has a great passion for the game," said MVNU coach Matt Moore, who will be entering his fourth season leading the Cougars in 2012-2013. "His best basketball is ahead of him as he fills into his frame and continues to evolve as an all-around player. He has a knack for making big plays at both ends of the floor when the time calls for it."

"MVNU was the spot for me because of the atmosphere Coach Moore creates," said Henderson of his college choice. "I enjoy my relationship with him and the other coaches along with my teammates that I got to interact with during my recruiting experience. I look forward to a great career and being a part of something special at MVNU."

Pittman, a 6-foot-7 power forward from Huber Heights, Ohio, was a three-year varsity player at Huber Heights Wayne High School where he averaged 8 points and 4 rebounds per game while shooting 69 percent from the field as a senior. He was an All-Conference Honorable Mention pick as well as a Scholar-Athlete with a 3.6 grade point average. He was also active in Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council, Senior Cabinet, and Peer Mediation.

"Malcolm's addition to our program is a special one because he is what I would consider a 'glue-guy' and all great teams need players like him," said Moore. "He will bring an outstanding competitive nature to the court, but his best asset is that he is an outstanding teammate and will push his teammates to get better every day. He is a very solid student and has a fun spirit about him."

"I really enjoyed my visit to MVNU during the season and could see myself as a member of the team," said Pittman of his college choice. "I think with the group of players we have coming in along with the returning guys we have the chance to raise the bar for the program. I can't wait to get to school in the fall to get started."

Starinsky, a 6-foot-3 wing from Columbus, Ohio, averaged 7 points and 4 rebounds as a senior at Hilliard Bradley High School where he was an All-OCC Capital Division Special Mention honoree.

"Jacob is a player that I think many teams and coaches have overlooked and could be an outstanding small college player," said Moore. "He has a toughness and athleticism that you don't expect at first when you see him play. He will bring a different look for us at the wing position because he is already physically able to compete with his size and athleticism."

"My decision to attend MVNU was an easy one from the first day I met Coach Moore and visited campus," said Starinsky. "The environment is exactly what I want and need, and the staff is awesome. I have a long way to go to become the player I believe I can be, but I think with great coaches and teammates I can get there."

MVNU finished with a 9-21 overall record and a 3-15 mark in its first season in the highly-competitive Mid-Central College Conference that featured four teams ranked in the final NAIA Division II Top 25 poll. Over the past 16 seasons, the Cougars have topped the 20-win mark 12 times and have advanced to the NAIA Division II National Tournament eight times.
