MVNU's Wade Earns MCC Player of the Week

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (3-13-2012) - Morgan
Wade, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women's fastpitch softball team,
has been named the Mid-Central College
Conference Player of the Week for her
performance in games played from March 5-11.
Wade,
a freshman catcher/designated player from
Delaware, Ohio, had an outstanding first
week of her collegiate career as she batted
.615 with eight hits in 13 at bats. The
former Buckeye Valley High School standout
had four doubles and one home run as she
posted a 1.154 slugging percentage, and she
finished with two runs scored and nine RBI
in the Lady Cougars' three games during the
week.
In a 9-1 season-opening victory
over Ursuline College, Wade became the first
player in program history to homer in her
first career at bat as she finished 3-for-4
in the game with a home run, two doubles,
and five RBI. She went 1-for-3 in a 6-3 win
over Salem International (W.Va.) University
in the first game of a non-conference
doubleheader and then went 4-for-6 with two
doubles and four RBI as MVNU rallied for an
8-7 victory in 10 innings in the nightcap
with Wade driving in the game-winning run
with two outs.
The Lady Cougars are
off to a 3-0 start to the season and now the
team will prepare for its annual spring trip
to Florida. MVNU will begin its 10-game
slate down south with a doubleheader against
NAIA No. 3 Oklahoma City University (15-2)
on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. |  |
