Four Cougars Earn NCCAA East Region Hoops

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (3-13-2012) - Four
members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University men's basketball team were
recently recognized for their performances
during the 2011-2012 season when the
National Christian College Athletic
Association East Region honors were
announced.
Robbie Taylor, a senior
guard from Gahanna, Ohio, was named to the
five-person NCCAA East Region First Team.
The former Gahanna Lincoln High School
standout led the Cougars in scoring (16.0
ppg), assists (104), and steals (58). He
also shot 35.6 percent from 3-point range
(57-for-160) and 77.4 percent from the free
throw line (120-for-155) while recording 95
rebounds.

Austin Semple |
Austin Semple, a sophomore wing from
Zeeland, Mich., was named to the five-person
NCCAA East Region Second Team. After missing
the first 10 games of the season due to
injury, the former Zeeland West High School
star ended up averaging 12.6 points and 4.2
rebounds over the final 20 games with 18
starts. He shot a team-best 88.9 percent
from the free throw line (64-for-72) and
also tallied 35 assists, 19 steals, and nine
blocked shots.
Caleb Williams, a
sophomore post from New Bremen, Ohio, was
selected to the five-person NCCAA East
Region Third Team. The former New Bremen
High School product averaged 8.5 points and
a team-high 6.6 rebounds while leading the
Mid-Central College Conference in blocked
shots with 50. He was also second for MVNU
in assists (55) and added 23 steals.

Danil Zakhlebnyy |
Danil Zakhlebnyy, a senior forward from
Almaty, Kazakhstan, was an NCCAA East Region
Honorable Mention pick. The former Olympic
Prep High School graduate averaged 10.8
points and 4.6 rebounds and was one of only
three players on the team to play all 30
games this season as he made 27 starts. He
also shot 79.5 percent from the free throw
line (70-for-88) and contributed 29 assists,
23 steals, and 10 blocked shots.
MVNU
finished the season with a 9-21 overall
record and a 3-15 MCC mark.
