MVNU's Kochheiser Named MCC Pitcher of the Week
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (3-26-2012) - Mike
Kochheiser, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University baseball team, was
recently selected as the Mid-Central College
Conference Pitcher of the Week for his
performance in games played during the week
of March 12-18.
Kochheiser,
a sophomore right-handed pitcher from
Bellville, Ohio, made one start during the
week and led the Cougars to a 10-0 victory
over Valley Forge Christian (Pa.) College.
The former Clear Fork High School standout
allowed just two hits and two walks over
seven innings while striking out a
career-high 14 batters to finish just four
strikeouts shy of the single-game school
record set by former No. 1 overall draft
pick Tim Belcher, who accomplished the feat
back in 1983 in a nine-inning game against
Kenyon College. Kochheiser was dominant in
the game and struck out the side in the
second, third, and seventh innings.
On the season, Kochheiser has posted a 3-0
record on the mound with a 1.04 earned run
average in three appearances that includes
two starts. In 17.1 innings of work, he has
struck out 22 batters and issued just four
walks. Opponents are hitting just .180
against him.
MVNU is currently 12-8
overall and 3-3 in the MCC. The Cougars will
be back in action at home on Tuesday at 2
p.m. when they will host Huntington (Ind.)
University in a conference doubleheader.
