Indiana All-State Volleyball Player Signs
with MVNU
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (6-8-2012) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's
volleyball team has signed an important
recruit for the 2012 season with the
addition of Emily Oberschlake, who has
decided to further her education at MVNU and
continue her volleyball career with the Lady
Cougars.
Oberschlake,
a 5-foot-5 defensive specialist from West
College Corner, Indiana, served up a
school-record 95 aces as a senior at Union
County High School to go along with 293
kills and 371 digs as she helped lead the
team to sectional and regional championships
on the way to a state final four appearance.
For her efforts, she was named to the
Tri-Eastern Conference First Team and the
All-State Team.
"Emily is a great
person, player, and student to add to our
volleyball program and university," said
MVNU coach Paul Swanson, who is the NAIA's
all-time wins leader (976) and has a 961-335
record in 28 years with the Lady Cougars.
"She is a strong student with strong
character and faith. She is a quality
ball-control player who will help us mostly
in the back row. Our team is looking forward
to the many ways Emily can add to our
group."
In addition to playing
volleyball at Union County and club
volleyball for the Oxford Borderline
Volleyball Club from 2006-2011, Oberschlake
was also a member of the varsity tennis
team, a member of National Honor Society,
and the FFA Vice President.
"Mount
Vernon is where I will be attending because
the atmosphere was so welcoming," said
Oberschlake of her college choice. "I wanted
to attend a Christian campus, and with much
prayer Mount Vernon Nazarene University is
where God led me."
MVNU finished the
2011 season with a 13-23 overall record as
the Lady Cougars competed in the Mid-Central
College Conference for the first season.
