Five Lady Cougars Earn NCCAA East Region

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (1-7-2012) - Five members
of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University
women's soccer team were honored for their
performances this season by earning National
Christian College Athletic Association East
Region honors.

Challyn Dobson, a senior defender from
Mount Vernon, Ohio, highlighted the list as
she was selected as the NCCAA East Region
Co-Player of the Year and tied as the top
vote-getter on the NCCAA East Region Team.
The former Mount Vernon High School star
started all 22 matches she played in and
anchored the back line that posted eight
shutouts. She also added one assist and led
the team by playing in 1,820 minutes.
Jessica Linger, a junior forward from
Bexley, Ohio, joined Dobson on the NCCAA
East Region Team. The former Bexley High
School standout played in all 23 matches
with 22 starts and registered six goals and
a team-high four assists.
Megan
Griffith, a freshman midfielder from Powell,
Ohio, rounded out the Lady Cougars on the
NCCAA East Region Team. The former Olentangy
Liberty High School product played in all 23
matches with 19 starts and recorded four
goals and two assists.

Amanda Woods, a senior forward from
Nashport, Ohio, was an NCCAA East Region
Honorable Mention selection. The former
Tri-Valley High School star led MVNU with
seven goals and also registered two assists
as she started all 23 matches.
Rachel
Elder, a junior midfielder from Lebanon,
Ohio, was also an NCCAA East Region
Honorable Mention pick. The former Lebanon
High School star played in all 23 matches
with 22 starts. She ranked second on the
team with 1,645 minutes played.
MVNU
finished the season with a 12-9-2 overall
record and a 5-3-1 Mid-Central College
Conference mark. The Lady Cougars advanced
to the MCC Tournament championship match and
then finished third at the NCCAA National
Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. |  |
