Lady Cougars Earn All-American Soccer Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (1-9-2012) - Challyn Dobson and Jessica Linger, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team, both received All-American honors when the various awards were announced at the conclusion of the season.

Dobson, a senior defender from Mount Vernon, Ohio, became one of the most decorated players in the program's history when she was named to the NAIA Honorable Mention All-American Team, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NAIA All-American Second Team, and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-American Second Team. The former Mount Vernon High School standout started all 22 matches in which she played and anchored the Lady Cougars' back line that produced eight shutouts. Dobson also recorded one assist and she led the team with 1,820 minutes played.

Linger, a junior forward from Bexley, Ohio, was selected as an NCCAA Honorable Mention All-American. The former Bexley High School star played in all 23 matches with 22 starts and led the team with four assists. She also ranked second on the squad with six goals including two game-winning goals.

MVNU finished the season with a 12-9-2 overall record and advanced to the championship match of the Mid-Central College Conference Tournament. The Lady Cougars also went 2-1 at the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla. to claim third place.
