MVNU's Harkins Named MCC Player of the
Week

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (2-20-2012) - Alexis
Harkins, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's basketball team,
has been selected as the Mid-Central College
Conference Player of the Week for her
performance in games played from February
13-19.
Harkins,
a senior forward from Canal Fulton, Ohio,
averaged 15.5 points and 10.0 rebounds as
the Lady Cougars went 2-0 to extend their
winning streak to five straight games. The
former Northwest High School standout scored
16 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, handed out
two assists, and registered three steals in
a 62-48 victory over Spring Arbor (Mich.)
University. Then, she added 15 points and 10
rebounds in a 70-48 win over the University
of Saint Francis (Ind.), who received votes
in last week's NAIA Division II poll.
On the season, Harkins is averaging 12.2
points and 5.8 rebounds while leading all of
NAIA Division II by shooting 90.7 percent at
the free throw line (78-for-86). She has
also compiled 29 assists, 31 steals, and
made 12 3-pointers. For her career, she
ranks seventh in school history in points
(1,344), seventh in rebounds (698), and
sixth in field goals made (495).
MVNU
is currently 16-12 overall and finished
seventh in the MCC with an 8-10 conference
mark. The Lady Cougars, who received a vote
in this week's NAIA Division II poll, will
be the No. 7 seed in the MCC Tournament and
travel to No. 2 seed Bethel (Ind.) College
on Tuesday for a first round game against
the No. 18 Lady Pilots at 7 p.m. The winner
of that game will advance to the MCC
Tournament semifinals on Friday at 7 p.m.
