Dublin Scioto Defender Signs with MVNU
Men's Soccer Team
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (2-15-2012) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team
has signed an important recruit for the 2012
season as the Cougars have signed Brandon
Gaunt, who will look to further his
education and continue his soccer career at
MVNU.
Gaunt, a defender from
Columbus, Ohio, was a defender at Dublin
Scioto High School. He was named to the Ohio
Capital Conference Second Team as both a
junior and a senior, and he helped anchor
the back line that produced a school-record
12 shutouts in 19 matches as a senior. He
also received the Senior Excellence Award
from the National Soccer Coaches Association
of America in 2011.

"Brandon is a high quality young man
with strong Christ-like character," said
coach Andrew Belleman as he looks forward to
his second season guiding the Cougars. "He
is going to be an asset to our program and
the University. On the field, he is very
smart and technically sound, and he reads
the game extremely well. He will be able to
help us right away, and we couldn't be
happier to add him to our MVNU soccer
family."
In addition to playing
soccer at Dublin Scioto, Gaunt has played
club soccer for Team Ohio FC and for the
Olentangy Classics. He has also reached the
rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts of
America.
"There are several reasons
why I chose MVNU," said Gaunt of his college
choice. "It is a small school that is close
to home. It has good academics and strong
Christian values and morals. I also really
like the coach and the soccer players."
The Cougars posted a 7-11-1 overall
record in 2011 and posted a 3-6 Mid-Central
College Conference mark.
