Lady Cougars Sign Dayton Christian Soccer
Standout
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (2-6-2012) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer
team has signed an important recruit for the
2012 season as Casey Apple has decided to
further her education and continue her
soccer career at MVNU.
Apple,
a defender from Waynesville, Ohio, was a
four-year varsity starter and two-year
captain at Dayton Christian High School. She
anchored a defense that posted a
school-record 10 shutouts in 18 matches in
2011 and she added six goals and three
assists. She was a two-time Metro Buckeye
Conference First Team selection and was
named to the All-Miami Valley First Team as
a senior after earning All-Miami Valley
Second Team honors as a sophomore. She also
participated in the Miami Valley Scholastic
Soccer Coaches Association Senior All-Star
Game.
"We are very pleased that Casey
has chosen MVNU to further her academic and
athletic careers," said MVNU coach Daniel
Seiffert, who has guided MVNU to a 37-23-6
record the past three season and a berth in
either the NAIA National Tournament or the
National Christian College Athletic
Association National Tournament each year.
"She is a very determined young lady with
strong leadership skills. She has a great
heart for excelling in everything that she
does both on and off the field. Her
performances with her high school and club
teams fully attest to her abilities to play
at a high level consistently over a long
period of time."
"As a defender,
Casey is tenacious on her challenges and has
the ability to get forward on the flanks,"
Seiffert added. "She has sound 1-v-1
capabilities and looks to possess the ball
quite well out of the back. These skills,
coupled with a strong work ethic, will serve
her well throughout her college career. We
are looking forward to all that God has
planned for her as she contributes to our
team, our university, and the MVNU
community."
In addition to playing
soccer at Dayton Christian, Apple has played
club soccer for Metro FC Rapids since 2004
and won numerous tournaments with them. She
also played two years of basketball, is a
member of National Honor Society, has been
in two plays, participated in two science
fairs, and taken mission trips to both New
York and Jamaica.

"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU," said Apple of her college choice. "I
like the small, Christian atmosphere and the
campus. The school offers what I would like
to study and I have friends that attend
there. I also made my decision based on the
soccer program. I would like to thank Coach
Seiffert for giving me the opportunity to be
a part of his team. I am excited and looking
forward to continuing my education and my
soccer career at MVNU."
The Lady
Cougars posted a 12-9-2 overall record in
2011 and advanced to the championship game
of the Mid-Central College Conference
Tournament. They also claimed third place at
the NCCAA National Tournament in Kissimmee,
