MVNU Women's Soccer Players Dominate
Capital One Awards

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-14-2011) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer
team claimed eight of the 15 spots on the
Capital One Academic All-District Team and
landed one player on the Capital One
Academic All-America Third Team when the
awards were recently selected and announced
by the College Sports Information Directors
of America.
Amanda Woods, a senior
forward from Nashport, Ohio, highlighted the
list for the Lady Cougars as she was named
to the Capital One Academic All-District
Team and the Capital One Academic
All-America Third Team. The former
Tri-Valley High School standout led MVNU
with seven goals this season that included a
team-best three game-winning goals. She also
added two assists. In the classroom, the
biology (pre-medicine) major has posted a
3.52 grade point average.

Courtney Ricker |
Courtney Ricker, a senior from
Marysville, Ohio, joined Woods as one of the
other three forwards named to the Capital
One Academic All-District Team. The former
Marysville High School star started 20
matches and played in all 23 matches for
MVNU this year and finished with one goal
and one assist. In the classroom, the
mathematics/management double major has
compiled a 3.92 grade point average.
Lindsey Shaffer, a senior midfielder from
New Cumberland, W.Va., was one of four Lady
Cougars to earn a spot as one of the six
midfielders on the Capital One Academic
All-District Team. The former Oak Glen High
School graduate played in 17 matches with
one start and scored one goal this year. In
the classroom, the chemistry/mathematics
double major has posted a 3.93 grade point
average.

Washington |
Erin Washington, a senior from Lucas,
Ohio, was another of the midfielders to be
selected to the Capital One Academic
All-District Team. The former Mansfield
Christian School product started 17 matches
and played in all 23 matches as she recorded
one goal and one assist. In the classroom,
the biology (pre-medicine) major has
accumulated a 3.87 grade point average.
Libby Kalanquin, a junior from Toledo,
Ohio, was the third MVNU midfielder named to
the Capital One Academic All-District Team.
The former Sylvania Northview High School
standout played in 20 matches off the bench
and registered one goal and two assists. In
the classroom, the chemistry (pre-medicine)
major has posted a 3.85 grade point average.

Amy Weaver, a sophomore from Apple
Creek, Ohio, was the fourth and final MVNU
midfielder to earn a spot on the Capital One
Academic All-District Team. The former
Waynedale High School product played in all
23 matches with two starts and recorded one
goal and two assists. In the classroom, the
middle childhood education major has posted
a 3.87 grade point average.
Stacy
Culbertson, a junior defender from Delaware,
Ohio, was one of two Lady Cougars to claim
one of the four defender spots on the
Capital One Academic All-District Team. The
former Olentangy High School graduate played
in 22 matches this year with 19 starts and
finished with one goal and two assists. In
the classroom, the early childhood education
major has posted a 3.71 grade point average.

Rachel Walters |
Rachel Walters, a sophomore from
Jamestown, Ohio, was the other MVNU defender
named to the Capital One Academic
All-District Team. The former Greeneview
High School product played in 21 matches
with 15 starts and helped anchor the back
line that posted eight shutouts. In the
classroom, the nursing major posted a 3.59
grade point average.
The Capital One
Academic All-District candidates are
nominated by the sports information
directors of their respective schools who
are CoSIDA members and then voted on by all
the district members. The district that MVNU
is in encompasses 15 states along the east
coast as well as Washington D.C. To be
eligible, a student-athlete must be at least
a sophomore in their second year of
attendance at their current school with a
3.30 grade point average or higher. Capital
One Academic All-District First Team
honorees are then eligible for consideration
for one of the three Capital One Academic
All-America Teams.
