Lady Cougars Earn Capital One Academic
Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-13-2011) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's
volleyball team was well-represented on the
Capital One Academic All-District Team and
landed one player on the Capital One
Academic All-America Third Team when the
awards were recently selected and announced
by the College Sports Information Directors
of America.
Lauren Percival, a junior
setter from Elyria, Ohio, highlighted the
list for the Lady Cougars as she was named
to both the Capital One Academic
All-District First Team and the Capital One
Academic All-America Third Team. The former
Amherst Steele High School standout led MVNU
with 945 assists this season while also
compiling 149 kills, 31 aces, 38 blocks, and
374 digs and starting all 36 matches and
playing in all 125 sets. In the classroom,
the chemistry major has posted a 3.74 grade
point average.

Paige Hagans |
Paige Hagans, a junior defensive
specialist from West Salem, Ohio, joined
Percival on the Capital One Academic
All-District First Team. The former
Northwestern High School product played in
all 125 sets for the Lady Cougars and
started 24 of the team's 36 matches despite
not playing volleyball the previous two
years. She finished third on the team with
330 digs and a .911 serve reception
percentage. In the classroom, the accounting
and finance management double major posted a
3.71 grade point average.
Kaylee
Hewitt, a junior libero from Alanson, Mich.,
was also named to the Capital One Academic
All-District First Team. The former Harbor
Light Christian School star led MVNU with
456 digs this season to go with 76 kills, 21
aces, and a .929 serve reception percentage
while playing in all 125 sets. In the
classroom, the early childhood education
major has posted a 3.55 grade point average.

Kendra Votaw |
Kendra Votaw, a sophomore middle hitter
from Marengo, Ohio, rounded out the Lady
Cougars on the Capital One Academic
All-District First Team as they claimed four
of the eight spots. The former Gilead
Christian School standout finished the year
with 243 kills, 62 blocks, 168 digs, and 20
aces as she started and played in the team's
first 67 sets before a knee injury ended her
season prematurely. In the classroom, the
physical education/health education major
has posted a 3.75 grade point average.
The Capital One Academic All-District
candidates are nominated by the sports
information directors of their respective
schools who are CoSIDA members and then
voted on by all the district members. The
district that MVNU is in encompasses 15
states along the east coast as well as
Washington D.C. To be eligible, a
student-athlete must be at least a sophomore
in their second year of attendance at their
current school with a 3.30 grade point
average or higher. Capital One Academic
All-District First Team honorees are then
eligible for consideration for one of the
three Capital One Academic All-America
Teams.
