Five MVNU Men's Soccer Players Honored by
NCCAA

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-6-2011) - Five
members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene
University men's soccer team were honored
recently when the National Christian College
Athletic Association East Region honors were
announced.

Chris Allen, a senior forward from St.
Catherine, Jamaica, headlined the list for
MVNU as he was named to the NCCAA East
Region Team. The former Kingston College
High School standout led the Cougars with
eight goals and five assists as he finished
with 21 total points. He started all 18
matches in which he played.
Caleb
Palumbo, a sophomore defender from Galena,
Ohio, joined Allen on the NCCAA East Region
Team. The former Worthington Christian
School star started all 19 matches and led
MVNU with 1,683 minutes played. He anchored
the back line that posted five shutouts, and
he also registered two assists.

Steve Wilging, a senior defender from
Mansfield, Ohio, was an NCCAA East Region
Honorable Mention pick. The former Mansfield
Christian School product started all 18
matches in which he played and joined
Palumbo on the back line. He also recorded
one assist.
Eric Appiah, a senior
defender/forward from Asamankese, Ghana, was
another NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention
selection. The former Aggrey Memorial High
School graduate compiled three goals and two
assists while starting 10 of the 16 matches
in which he played.
Brian Petak, a
junior midfielder from Bedford, Ohio,
rounded out the NCCAA East Region Honorable
Mention choices. The former Cuyahoga Valley
Christian Academy standout tallied four
goals and three assists despite playing in
just nine matches in which he started seven
of them.
The Cougars finished the
2011 season with a 7-11-1 overall record and
a 3-6 Mid-Central College Conference mark.
