MVNU's Culbertson Named MCC Defensive
Player of the Week written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (8-30-2011) - Stacy
Culbertson, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's soccer team, has
been selected as the Mid-Central College
Conference Defensive Player of the Week for
her performance in matches played from
August 22-28.
Culbertson,
a junior defender from Delaware, Ohio,
helped the Lady Cougars earn a 1-1 double
overtime draw at John Brown (Ark.)
University on Saturday. The former Olentangy
High School standout ripped a free kick from
25 yards out that found the back of the net
in the 86th minute to knot the score at 1-1
versus the Lady Eagles, who received votes
in the NAIA preseason poll. The goal was the
first of Culbertson's career.
MVNU,
which also received votes in the NAIA
preseason poll, is currently 0-1-1 on the
season heading into the team's next match on
Saturday at the University of the
Cumberlands (Ky.). Kick off for that contest
is slated for 3:00 p.m.
Culbertson
becomes the first MVNU student-athlete to
earn honors from the MCC after the
university's move from the American Mideast
Conference.
