MVNU's Roberts Named MCC Player of the
Week

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (4-11-2012) - Josh
Roberts, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University baseball team, was
selected as the Mid-Central College
Conference Player of the Week for his
performance in games played during the week
of April 2-8.
Roberts,
a senior first baseman from Chillicothe,
Ohio, led the Cougars to a 6-0 record for
the week as he batted .429 with nine hits in
21 at bats and at least one hit coming in
every game. He compiled three doubles, three
home runs, two sacrifice flies, seven runs
scored, and 12 RBI while also registering 56
putouts and two assists with no errors.
The former Zane Trace High School star
began the week with three hits in six at
bats while driving in five runs and scoring
three times in a home doubleheader sweep of
Marian (Ind.) University by the scores of
5-2 and 10-4. Then, Roberts added three hits
in eight at bats with three RBI in another
sweep at Marian this time by the scores of
5-0 and 6-3. He closed out the week by going
3-for-7 as MVNU swept a pair of one-run
games against Bethel (Ind.) College by the
scores of 10-9 and 3-2. Roberts drove in
four runs and scored three times in the
opener as he pounded a pair of home runs.
On the season, Roberts is batting .339
with 39 hits in 115 at bats. He has compiled
six doubles and leads the team in home runs
(7), runs scored (27), RBI (29), and
slugging percentage (.574). He has also
stolen seven bases and has registered 239
putouts and 15 assists at first base.
The Cougars are currently 22-12 overall
and 13-7 in the MCC. They will return to
action on Thursday when they travel to
Goshen (Ind.) College for another conference
doubleheader that will begin at 2 p.m.
