Marysville Soccer Standout Signs with
Cougars
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (4-5-2012) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team
has signed an important recruit for the 2012
season as the Cougars have signed Seth
Huffman, who will look to further his
education and continue his soccer career at
MVNU.
Huffman,
a midfielder/defender from Marysville, Ohio,
was a four-year member of the Marysville
High School team. He earned Defensive Player
of the Year honors in 2008 and 2011 and was
named the team's Most Valuable Player in
2009. He also served as a co-captain as a
senior this past season, and he was a
four-time Scholar-Athlete selection. In 18
matches as a senior, he posted two assists
and was part of two shutouts.
"Seth
is a hard-working defender, who can get up
and down the field from the outside back
position," said coach Andrew Belleman as he
looks forward to his second season guiding
the Cougars. "I am looking forward to him
being a part of our program, continuing to
develop his game, and making contributions
on the field for us."
In addition to
playing soccer at Marysville High School,
Huffman played club soccer with Elite FC,
Columbus Crew Juniors, and Classic Eagles as
well as indoor soccer. He participated in
the Ohio Northern Futsol Tournament the past
three years with one first-place and one
second-place finish. He has been active in
his church youth group, Quake, which travels
in the summer to help residents with
community service. He has also been a member
of the Leo Club, a school-sponsored youth
volunteer group, and will receive a business
management certificate along with his high
school diploma in June.
"During my
college search, I always liked the
opportunity to possibly play soccer for the
school that I chose," said Huffman. "MVNU
was always on my radar and obviously is now
my number one. I believe my campus visits
were the swaying point in my decision,
especially my overnight stay with guys from
the team. Observing their normal day at MVNU
as a student-athlete, my excitement for a
college life like theirs grew quickly.
Overall, I loved hanging out with the guys
and I also liked Coach Belleman. This all
led me to finally choosing MVNU as my
destination for the next four years."

The Cougars posted a 7-11-1 overall
record in 2011 and posted a 3-6 Mid-Central
College Conference mark.
