MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (9-10-2010) - Kemar Jackson, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team, was recently selected as the American Mideast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance during the week of August 30-September 5.

Jackson, a senior defender from St. Catherine, Jamaica, led the Cougars to a 1-1 record for the week. The former Wolmers High School product scored a goal and helped anchor the MVNU defense that posted a 2-0 shutout in the first round of the First-Knox Cougar Invitational. He added the team's only goal in a 4-1 loss to Judson (Ill.) University, who was receiving votes in the NAIA poll at the time. For his efforts in the tournament, he was selected as the Most Valuable Offensive Player.

On the season, Jackson leads the Cougars with a career-high five goals to go with one assist. He has also helped the MVNU defense post three shutouts in five matches.

The Cougars, who are currently 3-2 overall and received votes in the latest NAIA poll, will return to action on Friday at the Bethel (Ind.) College Classic. MVNU will take on Goshen (Ind.) College at 5 p.m. in the first round and then will play the host Pilots at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
