Loewen Named Defensive Player of the Week

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (10-30-2010) - Jenessa
Loewen, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's soccer team, has
been selected as the American Mideast
Conference Defensive Player of the Week for
the fifth time this season and the second
week in a row as she was honored for her
performance during the week of October
18-24.
Loewen,
a senior goalkeeper from Gravenhurst,
Ontario, led the Lady Cougars to a 2-0
record for the week with a pair of shutout
AMC wins. She had two saves in a 1-0 win at
Point Park (Pa.) University, and then she
closed the week with three saves in a 4-0
win over Walsh University.
On the season, the former Gravenhurst High
School standout has posted 10 shutouts and a
microscopic 0.45 goals against average with
72 saves. She has also become the program's
career shutouts leader as she currently has
33.
MVNU is currently 11-5 overall and 5-4 in
the AMC. The Lady Cougars close out the
regular season at Malone University on
Saturday and need a win or a tie to clinch a
spot in the five-team AMC Tournament that
starts on November 6.
