MVNU's Loewen Claims AMC Weekly Defensive
Honor Again
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (10-7-2010) - Jenessa
Loewen, a member of the Mount Vernon
Nazarene University women's soccer team, has
been selected as the American Mideast
Conference Defensive Player of the Week for
the second straight week and the third time
in four weeks as she was recently honored
for her performance during the week of
September 27-October 3.
Loewen,
a senior goalkeeper from Gravenhurst,
Ontario, led the Lady Cougars to a 2-0
record for the week as she notched a pair of
shutouts to run the team's winning streak to
four straight matches – all via the shutout.
In a 2-0 win at Asbury (Ky.) University, the
former Gravenhurst High School standout
stopped two shots. Then, in a 1-0 victory at
Georgetown (Ky.) College where the winning
goal was scored with 27 seconds remaining,
she posted eight more saves to help secure
the win for MVNU.
On the season, Loewen has posted seven
shutouts in nine matches and allowed just
three goals for a 0.33 goals against average
while posting 46 saves. She now has 30
career shutouts and is just one shy of the
Lady Cougars' all-time record of 31 set by
Krysti Wilson from 2003-2006.
MVNU has an important weekend of conference
action ahead with a match at Houghton (N.Y.)
College on Friday at 5 p.m. and a match at
Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College on Saturday
at 3 p.m. The Lady Cougars' two opponents
are currently first and second in the AMC
standings. | |
