Six Lady Cougars Recognized with NCCAA East Region Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (11-29-2010) - Six members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer team were recently honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region awards were decided by vote of the region coaches.

Leading the way for the Lady Cougars was senior midfielder Jessica Estep from Mansfield, Ohio, who was named to the NCCAA East Region Team for the fourth straight year. The former Madison High School star leads MVNU with 11 goals, six assists, and seven game-winning goals.

Jenessa Loewen, a senior goalkeeper from Gravenhurst, Ontario, joined Estep on the NCCAA East Region Team for the second straight year. The former Gravenhurst High School standout has posted 13 shutouts for MVNU in 21 matches this year with a microscopic 0.43 goals against average.

Rachel Elder, a sophomore midfielder from Lebanon, Ohio, was also named to the NCCAA East Region Team. The former Lebanon High School star has started all 21 matches and has contributed one goal and one assist.

Kelci Rhodes Jessica Linger Challyn Dobson

Kelci Rhodes, a junior defender from Beavercreek, Ohio, also earned a spot on the NCCAA East Region Team. The former Beavercreek High School product has started all 21 matches this season and anchored the defense that has 14 shutouts and allowed just nine goals. She has also recorded two assists.

Jessica Linger, a sophomore forward from Bexley, Ohio, was an NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention pick. The former Bexley High School star has played in 19 matches with 12 starts and registered four goals and three assists.

Challyn Dobson, a junior midfielder from Mount Vernon, Ohio, was also an NCCAA East Region Honorable Mention selection. The former Mount Vernon High School product has played in all 21 matches with 19 starts and has compiled two goals and three assists.

The Lady Cougars, who won the NCCAA East Region title, are currently 14-6-1 overall and finished 6-4 in the AMC. MVNU will be the No. 4 seed at the eight-team National Christian College Athletic Association Tournament that gets underway December 1 in Kissimmee, Fla. The Lady Cougars will play No. 5 seed Corban (Ore.) University in the first round at 7:45 p.m.
