Lady Cougars Earn NCCAA East Region Volleyball Accolades

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (11-3-2010) - Four members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team and their coach were honored when the National Christian College Athletic Association East Region awards were announced recently following a vote by the region coaches.

The Lady Cougars swept the two main honors as senior middle hitter Jackie Albrecht was named the NCCAA East Region Player of the Year for the third straight year, while coach Paul Swanson was named the NCCAA East Region Coach of the year for the 18th time in his 27 years at MVNU.

Albrecht, a native of Lexington, Ohio, highlighted the eight-person NCCAA East Region Team. The former Mansfield Christian School star leads the Lady Cougars in kills (600), kills per set (4.03), and attack percentage (.308). She has also compiled 43 aces, 103 blocks, and 425 digs, and she recently became only the third player in school history to top the 2,000-kill and 2,000-dig mark in a career.

Caitlin Myles, a senior libero from Centerburg, Ohio, joined Albrecht on the NCCAA East Region Team. The former Centerburg High School product leads MVNU in digs (793), serving percentage (.978), and serve reception percentage (.967). She has also registered 14 assists and 17 aces, and she now ranks fourth in school history with 2,268 career digs.

Lauren Percival, a sophomore setter from Elyria, Ohio, was also named to the NCCAA East Region Team. The former Amherst Steele High School standout leads the Lady Cougars with 1,538 assists and 45 aces. She has also compiled 42 blocks and 90 blocks and is second on the team with 556 digs.

Sarah Yutzy, a senior middle hitter from West Jefferson, Ohio, rounded out the MVNU players on the NCCAA East Region Team as the Lady Cougars grabbed four of the eight spots. The former West Jefferson High School graduate leads MVNU with 174 blocks to go with 99 digs and 325 kills.

The Lady Cougars are currently 39-3 overall and 9-0 in the American Mideast Conference with one match left in the regular season. MVNU will host Walsh University on Thursday at 7 p.m. in a battle for the AMC title.
