Lady Cougars Sweep AMC Volleyball Top

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (11-23-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's
volleyball team swept all the top honors
when the American Mideast Conference awards
were selected recently by vote of the
conference coaches.

Headlining the list was senior middle
hitter Jackie Albrecht, a native of
Lexington, Ohio, who was named to the AMC
First Team for the third straight year and
selected as the AMC Player of the Year for
the second consecutive season. The former
Mansfield Christian School star ranks second
in the NAIA with 646 kills to go along with
47 aces, 115 blocks, and 470 digs. She also
has a .310 attack percentage, a .955 serve
reception percentage, and a .962 serving
percentage.
Caitlin Myles, a senior libero from
Centerburg, Ohio, joined Albrecht on the AMC
First Team and was named the Libero of the
Year as she became the first player in
school history to earn that honor. The
former Centerburg High School standout ranks
fourth in the NAIA with a school-record 857
digs this year while also posting 18 aces, a
.967 serve reception percentage, and a .978
serving percentage.
Lauren Percival, a sophomore setter from
Elyria, Ohio, rounded out the MVNU players
on the AMC First Team and was selected as
the AMC Setter of the Year as she became the
first player in school history to earn that
award. The former Amherst Steele High School
product ranks third in the NAIA with 1,662
assists. She has also posted 95 kills, 47
aces, 49 blocks, and 590 digs along with a
.957 serving percentage.

Sarah Yutzy, a senior middle hitter from
West Jefferson, Ohio, was named to the AMC
Second Team for the second consecutive
season. The former West Jefferson High
School standout ranks third in the NAIA with
191 total blocks. She has also recorded 347
kills and 105 digs and has posted a .967
serving percentage and a .971 serve
reception percentage.
Kendra Votaw, a freshman outside hitter from
Marengo, Ohio, joined Yutzy on the AMC
Second Team and was also selected to the AMC
All-Freshmen Team. The former Gilead
Christian School star has compiled 413
kills, 202 digs, 67 blocks, and 24 aces
while playing in all 161 sets in her first
collegiate season.
Head coach Paul Swanson was also honored by
his peers by being tabbed the AMC Coach of
the Year after guiding the Lady Cougars to a
perfect 10-0 conference mark and a 41-4
overall record so far. This is the sixth
time he has earned conference Coach of the
Year honors.
MVNU will be the No. 2 seed at the upcoming
National Christian College Athletic
Association Tournament in Kissimmee, Fla.
The Lady Cougars, who are the defending
NCCAA national runner-up, will begin pool
play with a noon match against No. 10 seed
Southeastern (Fla.) University and a 6:30
p.m. contest against Trinity Christian
(Ill.) College on December 2. Then, the team
will play King (Tenn.) College at 10 a.m.
and Campbellsville (Ky.) University at 4
p.m. on December 3. The semifinals and
finals will be held on December 4.
