Three Men's Soccer Players Earn CoSIDA Academic Honors

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (11-4-2010) - Three members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team were recently honored when the ESPN Academic All-District IV College Division Teams were announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Cody Snouffer, a senior midfielder from Delaware, Ohio, was named to the ESPN Academic All-District IV First Team. The former Delaware Christian School star has started all 18 matches this year and has recorded eight goals and six assists to increase his career totals to 27 goals and 26 assists. He is a Spanish/Intercultural Studies double major with a 3.91 grade point average, and he was an ESPN Academic All-District IV Second Team selection last year.

Kemar Jackson, a senior defender from St. Catherine, Jamaica, was named to the ESPN Academic All-District IV Second Team. The former Wolmers High School product has started all 18 matches this season leads the Cougars with 11 goals to go with two assists while helping anchor the back line that has posted seven shutouts. He is a Criminal Justice/Psychology double major with a 3.56 grade point average.

Tyson Porter, a senior goalkeeper from Mansfield, Ohio, was named to the ESPN Academic All-District IV Third Team. The former Lexington High School standout has played in 12 matches with 11 starts and has posted a 7-4-1 record in goal with a 1.94 goals against average. He is a History major with a 3.36 grade point average.

The ESPN Academic All-District IV College Division teams are selected by members of CoSIDA. Eligible student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 grade point average and be at least in their sophomore year. The District IV College Division is made up of NCAA Division II and III and NAIA schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. Academic All-District First Team selections are then eligible for the national ballot and Academic All-America consideration.

MVNU is currently 11-6-1 overall. The Cougars begin play in the American Mideast Conference Tournament semifinals on Saturday at Houghton (N.Y.) College at 2 p.m.
