Lady Cougars

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (5-26-2011) -
The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women's soccer team has signed an
important recruit for the 2011 season as
Dayna Setzler has decided to further her
education and continue her soccer career at
MVNU.
Setzler,
a midfielder from Oak Harbor, Ohio, capped
off her high school career with 10 goals and
five assists as a senior at Oak Harbor High
School as she was named to the Sandusky Bay
Conference First Team and was the runner-up
for SBC Player of the Year honors. She was
also an All-District First Team selection as
a senior after being named to the SBC Second
Team as a junior.
"Dayna is a quality student-athlete who is
going to fit in very well with our women's
soccer program, and we are very pleased to
have her as a Lady Cougar," said MVNU coach
Daniel Seiffert, who has guided MVNU to a
25-14-4 record the past two seasons and a
berth in either the NAIA National Tournament
or the National Christian College Athletic
Association National Tournament each year.
"She has excelled with both her high school
and club programs and we feel that she has
all of the tools necessary to be an impact
player at the college level."
"As a midfielder, Dayna has been blessed
with good size and great pace," Seiffert
added. "She has very good vision and an
accurate touch on the ball. These
attributes, coupled with a strong work ethic
on the attack as well as defensively, will
serve her well as part of our system of
play. We're looking forward to all that God
has planned for her as she contributes to
our team and to our university community."
In addition to playing soccer for Oak
Harbor, Setzler has been very active in club
soccer with the ESSL Arsenal U10, U12, U14,
and U19 teams. She was part of the U14 team
that captured the Northwest Ohio Festival
championship in 2005 and 2006 and was a
member of the Brunswick Fall Classic
runner-up team in 2006. A good student in
the classroom, she was an Honor Award
recipient from 2008-2011 and was inducted
into National Honor Society.

"There are several
reasons why I chose MVNU," said Setzler of
her college choice. "I have family that has
gone there or is currently attending. It is
semi-close to home and has a good Christian
environment. My field of study is offered
and I will have the ability to continue
playing soccer at the next level."
MVNU finished the 2010 season with a 14-8-2
overall that included a 6-4 mark in the
American Mideast Conference. The Lady
Cougars also advanced to the NCCAA National
Tournament after making the program's
first-ever appearance in the NAIA National
Tournament Opening Round in 2009 in
Seiffert's first season as head coach.
