Four Cougars Receive AMC Men's Basketball

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (3-3-2011) - Four members
of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University
men's basketball team were honored when the
American Mideast Conference awards were
announced this week following voting by the
conference coaches.

Brandon Short, a 6-foot-1 senior guard
from Orrville, Ohio, highlighted the
honorees for the Cougars as he was named to
the AMC First Team after making the AMC
Second Team a year ago. The former Orrville
High School star led MVNU in scoring (15.0
points per game), rebounding (5.9 rebounds
per game), and assists (127). He also shot
52.2 percent from the field (169-for-324),
37.5 percent from three-point range
(6-for-16), and 74.2 percent from the free
throw line (121-for-163) while recording 61
steals. He finishes his career with 1,259
points to rank 22nd in school history on the
all-time scoring list.
Robbie Taylor, a 5-foot-10 junior guard from
Gahanna, Ohio, was named to the AMC Second
Team for the second straight year. The
former Gahanna Lincoln High School standout
averaged 13.5 points and 2.6 rebounds while
leading the team in steals (65) and
3-pointers made (67) and ranking second on
the squad in assists (90). He shot 44.3
percent from the field (132-for-298), 41.4
percent from three-point range (67-for-162),
and 78.6 percent from the free throw line
(88-for-112). He will enter his senior year
having scored 913 career points.

Adam Grimm, a 6-foot-7 senior forward
from Titusville, Fla., was an AMC Honorable
Mention pick after finishing his MVNU career
with his best season. The St. Thomas Aquinas
High School product averaged 11.8 points and
4.7 rebounds with 16 blocked shots. He shot
54.2 percent from the field (130-for-240)
and 63.7 percent from the charity stripe
(93-for-146).
Austin Semple, a 6-foot-6 freshman wing from
Zeeland, Mich., was named to the AMC
All-Freshmen Team for his efforts in his
first collegiate season. The former Zeeland
West High School standout played in all 31
games with 20 starts and averaged 7.7 points
and 2.9 rebounds. He also shot 53.8 percent
from the field (85-for-158), 40 percent from
three-point range (22-for-55), and 75.4
percent from the free throw line
(46-for-61).
The Cougars finished the season with a 16-15
overall record and a 9-9 AMC mark.
