Smithville Volleyball Standout Signs with
Lady Cougars
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (6-6-2011) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's
volleyball team has signed an important
recruit for the 2011 season with the
addition of Hannah Rehm, who has decided to
further her education at MVNU and continue
her volleyball career with the Lady Cougars.
Rehm,
a 5-foot-7 setter from Smithville, Ohio,
helped lead Smithville High School to two
straight Wayne County Athletic League titles
and sectional championships as well as
district and regional titles and a berth in
the state Final Four in 2009. She set school
records for assists in a season (666) and
assists per match (42) as a senior to go
along with 180 digs and a 97.0 serving
percentage as she was named to the WCAL and
District IV Division III First Team. She was
also a WCAL Second Team pick and District IV
Division III Honorable Mention selection as
a junior.
"Hannah is certainly a welcomed addition to
the Lady Cougar Volleyball program," said
MVNU coach Paul Swanson, who is the NAIA's
all-time wins leader (963) and has a 948-312
record in 27 years with the Lady Cougars.
"She comes from a highly successful high
school program, and she will primarily help
us as an additional setting option. She is
an honor student, experienced and talented
player, and someone who will positively add
to our team and university."
In addition to playing volleyball at
Smithville, Rehm has played for the Wooster,
Elite Volleyball Club, the Kidron Volleyball
Club, and the Zero Gravity Volleyball Club.
She is a member of National Honor Society,
was selected as the 2010 Smithville
homecoming queen, and received the Orrville
Chamber of Commerce Award.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU," said Rehm of her college choice. "I
love the atmosphere. The size is perfect,
the campus is beautiful, and the food is
delicious. The chapel and religious
atmosphere are what I was looking for in a
school. The professors are friendly and the
students are great. I also love the
volleyball team. Everything about MVNU is
perfect for me."
MVNU finished the 2010 season with a 43-6
overall record. The Lady Cougars also
captured the American Mideast Conference
regular-season title – the program's eighth
conference title – with a perfect 10-0 mark. | |
