MVNU Finishes with 25 NAIA
Scholar-Athletes in 2010-2011

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (6-2-2011) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University sports teams
showed that they have success in the
classroom as well as on the field or court
in competition when the final listing of the
NAIA Scholar-Athletes for the 2010-2011
school year was released with 25 MVNU
student-athletes being honored.

Leading
the way was the MVNU women's soccer team
which had six players earn the award.
Lindsey Shaffer (3.91), Courtney Ricker
(3.87), Erin Washington (3.85), Jenessa
Loewen (3.71), Denče Stentz (3.66), and
Amanda Woods (3.54) were each recognized for
the Lady Cougars.
The MVNU women's basketball team had four
players honored as Kellie Jokela (3.77),
Gabby Fowler (3.72), Kelli Pollock (3.69),
and Sierra Fletcher (3.66) received the
accolades. The MVNU women's softball
team also had four players recognized in
Kristin Kurelic (3.97), Meagan Stott (3.78),
Elizabeth Misich (3.72), and Stephanie
Burlew (3.57)
The MVNU men's soccer team had three
players claim the accolades as Cody Snouffer
(3.91), Jake Reber (3.79), and Kemar Jackson
(3.56) were each honored. Meanwhile,
the MVNU baseball team also had three
honorees in Kodi Veale (3.92), Josh Roberts
(3.54), and Chaz Gibson (3.52).
The MVNU men's basketball team had two
players recognized in Brady Swanson (3.83)
and Logan Ellyson (3.74).
The MVNU men's and women's cross country
teams each landed on person on the list as
Nate Winters (3.52) and Caitlin Campbell
(3.78) were recognized, and the MVNU women's
volleyball team was represented by Sarah
Yutzy (3.63).
To be eligible for the NAIA
Scholar-Athlete award a student-athlete must
be a junior or senior with a 3.50 grade
point average or higher with at least one
year of attendance at the nominating school.
Last year, MVNU had a school-record 28
players recognized.
