written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (6-17-2011) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's
volleyball team has signed an important
recruit for the 2011 season with the
addition of Molly Gerber, who has decided to
further her education at MVNU and continue
her volleyball career with the Lady Cougars.
Gerber,
a 5-foot-10 right side hitter from New
Philadelphia, Ohio, compiled 245 kills, 83
blocks, 86 digs, and 24 aces as a senior at
Garaway High School. She was a two-time
Inter Valley Conference First Team selection
and a two-time District 5 First Team pick as
both a junior and a senior.
"We are happy that Molly is joining our
team," said MVNU coach Paul Swanson, who is
the NAIA's all-time wins leader (963) and
has a 948-312 record in 27 years with the
Lady Cougars. "We feel that she is a great
fit for our team and university. She
combines strong academics with excellent
athletic ability. In addition, she adds a
great personality who is excited to be at a
Christian university."
Besides playing volleyball at Garaway,
Gerber played for the Tusc Juniors (OVR)
during her junior year. She was a member of
National Honor Society, homecoming court,
and prom court, and received honor roll and
perfect attendance recognition.
"I chose MVNU because of the atmosphere and
the Christian influence," said Gerber of her
college choice. "The feeling I get when I
walk onto campus is indescribable –
everything just feels right."
MVNU finished the 2010 season with a 43-6
overall record. The Lady Cougars also
captured the American Mideast Conference
regular-season title – the program’s eighth
conference title – with a perfect 10-0 mark. | |
