MVNU's Himes Named NAIA National Player
of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (2-15-2011) - Amanda Himes
of Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) has been
named the NAIA National Division II Women’s
Basketball Player of the Week, the national
office announced Tuesday. Himes, who was
also named the American Mideast Conference
Player of the Week and the National
Christian College Athletic Association
Player of the Week, was selected based on
her performances from Feb. 7 - 13 and was
chosen out of a pool of
conference/independent/unaffiliated
groupings.
In
the Cougars’ 83-64 victory over Notre Dame
(Ohio) on Feb. 8, the 6-1 center notched a
career-high 31 points and also snagged 19
rebounds. Himes followed up the win with a
team-high 20 points and game-high 19
rebounds in the upset of then-No. 14
Cedarville (Ohio) on Feb. 12. With the two
wins, Mount Vernon Nazarene improved to 18-7
and 9-5 in the AMC.
The senior from Hilliard, Ohio, finished the
week averaging 25.5 points and 18.5 rebounds
per game. She shot 52.8 percent from the
field (19-for-36).
Himes ranks first in MVNU history in career
points (2,086), career rebounds (1,228),
career blocks (111) and career field goals
made (816).
Nationally, the senior ranks third in
rebounds per game (12.0), fifth in total
rebounds (287), sixth in offensive rebounds
per game (4.8) and seventh in defensive
rebounds per game (7.2). She also ranks 20th
in points per game with 17.7.
