MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-23-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team
has signed another important recruit for the
2011 season as the Cougars have inked Josh
Selle, who will look to further his
education and continue his soccer career at
MVNU.
Selle, a forward from Kirtland Hills, Ohio,
scored 17 goals to go with eight assists in
16 matches as a senior at Cornerstone
Christian Academy. The two-year captain and
two-time team Most Valuable Player led his
team in scoring as a junior and a senior. He
also ranked in the top 20 in scoring in the
Northeast Ohio District, and he was named
the Cornerstone Christian Academy male
athlete of the year in 2009-2010.
"We are happy to have Josh join us next
fall,” said MVNU coach Paul Furey, who has
posted a 252-165-32 overall record in 21
years with the Cougars. "He is a player with
good size and lots of potential. I see him
as being a solid performer for us before he
is done.”
In addition to playing soccer at Cornerstone
Christian Academy and club soccer for nine
years with the Cleveland Soccer Academy,
Selle was also a two-year captain on the
varsity basketball team at Cornerstone
Christian Academy. He has been on the
academic merit roll all four years, and he
took a missions trip to Nicaragua in March
2010 and served as a small group leader. He
has also served as a coach and counselor for
two years at a children's summer basketball
camp.
"Mount Vernon University, with its
Christ-centered environment, will be a
blessing for me as I grow in my walk with
Christ,” said Selle of his college choice.
"It is apparent to me that the campus has a
very friendly environment. I look forward to
being a part of a soccer team whose players
push each other towards Christ both on and
off the field. The Computer Networking
program at MVNU is also unique to many
Christian colleges, and I will enjoy the
opportunity to pursue this career
direction.”

MVNU posted a 12-7-2 overall record in 2010
and finished 5-2-1 in American Mideast
Conference play. The Cougars advanced to the
championship match of the National Christian
College Athletic Association East Region
Tournament before falling in a shootout to
Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College.
