written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (12-14-2010) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team
has signed its first recruit for the 2011
season as the Cougars have signed Collin
Riley, who will look to further his
education and continue his soccer career at
MVNU.
Riley,
a standout defender from Mount Vernon, Ohio,
anchored the Mount Vernon High School
defense that posted seven shutouts and an
11-3-3 record this past season as he was
named to the All-Central District First Team
while scoring three goals and registering
two assists. He was a two-time Ohio Capital
Conference First Team selection and was
named to the All-Central District Third Team
as a junior. The Yellow Jackets went 47-15-8
during his varsity career with 21 shutouts.
"Collin has developed into arguably the best
defender that's ever come out of Mount
Vernon,” said MVNU coach Paul Furey, who has
posted a 252-165-32 overall record in 21
years with the Cougars. "We are really
excited about what he can bring to our
program. He has the tools to step right in
and have an impact right away for us.”
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Riley of his college choice. "I
wanted to be able to play for the Cougars.
It's because of Coach Furey – he's an
awesome coach. I also know that I'll get a
good education and it's close to home.”

MVNU posted a 12-7-2 overall record in
2010 and finished 5-2-1 in American Mideast
Conference play. The Cougars advanced to the
championship match of the National Christian
College Athletic Association East Region
Tournament before falling in a shootout to
Roberts Wesleyan (N.Y.) College.
