Olentangy Liberty Soccer Standout Signs
with Lady Cougars
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (4-9-2011) -
The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women's soccer team has signed an
important recruit for the 2011 season as
Megan Griffith has decided to further her
education and continue her soccer career at
MVNU.
Griffith,
a center midfielder from Powell, Ohio, was
named to the All-Ohio Capital Conference
Second Team as a senior at Olentangy Liberty
High school after earning a spot on the All-OCC
First Team, the All-District First Team, and
the All-Ohio Second Team as a junior. She
was also named the team's Most Valuable
Player and was an Honorable Mention
selection for the This Week's News Super 12
Team.
"We are very excited to have Megan as part
of our soccer program,” said MVNU coach
Daniel Seiffert, who has guided MVNU to a
25-14-4 record the past two seasons and a
berth in either the NAIA National Tournament
or the National Christian College Athletic
Association National Tournament each year.
"She is a quality student-athlete who has
excelled on the field, in the classroom, and
in her service work to others. As a
midfielder, her technical skills and vision
are excellent, and she combines a strong
work ethic with a composed style of play.
She leads by example and is an unselfish
player who looks to involve all of those
around her.”
"Megan has been successful at both the high
school and club soccer levels while playing
for strong programs in both,” Seiffert
added. "I've known her for a number of years
and she'll be a terrific fit for our
program. We are looking forward to her
contributing to our team and to all that God
has planned for her throughout her
collegiate career.”
In addition to playing soccer at Olentangy
Liberty where she was a captain as a senior,
Griffith has played club soccer for the
Olentangy Classics (2003-2007), the Ohio
Premier Green Team (2007-2010), and Blast FC
(2010-present). She was on the State Cup
finalist team in 2009. She has also been
active in American Red Cross Club, Nellies
Club, Service Club, Fellowship of Christian
Athletes, Student Mentors, and JUMC Youth
Bible Study and Youth Mission Group.
"I chose MVNU because it has everything I
was looking for in a college,” said Griffith
of her college choice. "It is close to my
home and it has good nursing and criminal
law programs as well as a good soccer
program. I especially like the Christian
atmosphere and the friendliness of the
campus. On my visit, Coach Seiffert and the
team made me feel very welcome and
comfortable.”
MVNU finished the 2010 season with a 14-8-2
overall that included a 6-4 mark in the
American Mideast Conference. The Lady
Cougars also advanced to the NCCAA National
Tournament after making the program's
first-ever appearance in the NAIA National
Tournament Opening Round in 2009 in
Seiffert's first season as head coach. | |
