Standout
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (4-20-2011) - The Mount
Vernon Nazarene University women's soccer
team has signed an important recruit for the
2011 season as Brittney Bogantz has decided
to further her education and continue her
soccer career at MVNU.
Bogantz,
a center midfielder from Sunbury, Ohio, was
a three-time All-Conference honoree
including being named to the Ohio Capital
Conference First Team and the All-Central
District Second Team as a senior. As a
sophomore, she helped lead Big Walnut High
School to the OCC title. She was selected as
the Best Midfielder as a junior and senior
and was named her team's Most Valuable
Player as a senior.
"Brittney is a quality student-athlete and
we are very pleased that she has decided to
continue her career here at MVNU as part of
the Lady Cougars' soccer program,” said MVNU
coach Daniel Seiffert, who has guided MVNU
to a 25-14-4 record the past two seasons and
a berth in either the NAIA National
Tournament or the National Christian College
Athletic Association National Tournament
each year. "She is a very driven and
dedicated young lady who has excelled in
everything that she has done. Her excellence
on the field and in the classroom coupled
with her strong leadership skills and a
heart to serve others all combine very well
to make her an excellent fit for our
program.”
"As a midfielder, Brittney exhibits great
pace and quickness as well as vision,”
Seiffert added. "She is strong on the ball
and her passion for the game is evident in
her aggressiveness and strong work rate. All
of these qualities will serve her well in
our style of play. We're looking forward to
all that God has planned for her throughout
her career as she contributes to our team
and the MVNU community.”
In
addition to playing soccer at Big Walnut,
Bogantz played club soccer on the Cosa
Express Club Team from 1999-2008 and has
played for the Olentangy Classics Club Team
since 2009. She was a member of the Big
Walnut school record-setting 4x800 in indoor
track relay that captured a district title
in 2008. She has been involved in numerous
other extracurricular activities such as
Teen Advisors, Spanish Club, FCCLA, Spanish
Honor Society, Social Studies Honor Society,
yearbook staff, Big Brothers Big Sisters,
English Honor Society, Homecoming Court,
Eagles First Flight, Spanish Student
Teaching, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Honor
Society.
"There are several reasons why I chose
MVNU,” said Bogantz of her college choice.
"It is a Christian-based university with a
well-known education program. I also love
the coach and team more than at any other
school I looked at.”
MVNU finished the 2010 season with a 14-8-2
overall that included a 6-4 mark in the
American Mideast Conference. The Lady
Cougars also advanced to the NCCAA National
Tournament after making the program's
first-ever appearance in the NAIA National
Tournament Opening Round in 2009 in
Seiffert's first season as head coach.
