For the second straight
week, Mount Vernon Nazarene University
goalkeeper Alex Stout has been selected as
the American Mideast Conference Defensive
Player of the Week as he was honored this
time for his performance during the week of
September 14-20.
Stout,
a senior from Pataskala, Ohio, led the
Cougars to a 1-0 record for the week as MVNU
posted a 1-0 non-conference victory over
Ohio Dominican University, who was receiving
votes in the NAIA poll. The former Watkins
Memorial High School standout finished with
seven saves in the match including stopping
a one-on-one breakaway attempt in the first
half as well as coming up with a big save in
the final six minutes of the match to
preserve the shutout and secure the victory.
On the season, Stout has now posted six
shutouts in eight matches and allowed just
five goals in 675 minutes for a 0.67 goals
against average. He has increased his school
record career shutout total to 32 now.
The Cougars, who received votes in the
latest NAIA poll, are currently 6-2 overall
and 1-0 in the AMC. MVNU has won six
straight matches - all shutouts - and has
equaled the school record for most
consecutive home wins with 11 - the last
seven of which have all been shutouts. The
Cougars will look to extend all their
streaks on Saturday when MVNU will host
Daemen (N.Y.) College in an AMC match that
will begin at 4:00 p.m.
