Jackson and Stout Earn Honors for MVNU Soccer Team

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (10-2-2009) - Kemar Jackson and Alex Stout, two members of the Mount Vernon Nazarene University men’s soccer team, were recently honored for their performances during the week of September 21-27 as Jackson was named the American Mideast Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Stout was named the National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week.

Jackson, a junior defender from St. Catherine, Jamaica, helped the Cougars to a pair of shutouts during the week as the MVNU defense limited their opposition to just five total shots on goal. The former Wolmers High School standout scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over NCAA Division II Ashland University and then added an assist in the 6-0 win over Daemen (N.Y.) College.

On the season, Jackson has started all 10 matches and has two goals and one assist. He has also helped anchor the back line that has posted seven shutouts this year. For his career, he has registered five goals and three assists while playing in 54 matches with 40 starts.

Stout, a senior goalkeeper from Pataskala, Ohio, registered a pair of shutouts during the week as he stopped all five shots on goal in the two matches. The former Watkins Memorial High School star had three saves in the win over Ashland and then added two saves in the victory over Daemen. He was also credited with an assist on one of the goals in the Daemen win after a long punt led directly to a score.

On the season, Stout has started all 10 matches in goal and has posted an NAIA-best seven shutouts while allowing just six goals for a 0.63 goals against average. He also set a school record by going 670 minutes between goals allowed at one point. For his career, Stout has moved into the top 10 in NAIA history with a school-record 33 shutouts and has lowered his goals against average to 0.91 as he has allowed just 64 goals in 71 career matches that include 68 starts.

MVNU is currently 7-3 overall, 2-0 in the AMC, and ranked No. 23 in the latest NAIA poll. The Cougars will be at Urbana University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. for a non-conference match.
