First Annual Cougar Conditioning Golf
Classic Winners Crowned
written by Dave Parsons, Sports Information Director
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio (10-8-2009) -
The men's basketball team
held their first annual Cougar Conditioning
Golf Classic last week as 17 members along
with the coaching staff took part in the
event. Teams were split up into groups of
three based on each player's level of
experience.

"We had four or five guys that don't even
own a set of clubs," said first-year head
coach Matt Moore. "It is a great time,
though, as we are all competitors at the
root and we all want to be in front at the
end."
The seven-team scramble was played at
Hiawatha Golf Course in Mount Vernon where
the team of Travis Brown, Kyle Harden, and
Ben Severns (above) took home
the trophy for their two-under-par
performance.
"We just tried to focus and work
together," said team captain Travis Brown.
"We had to use everyone's tee shot at least
twice so deciding which shot to use when was
the key to our success."
The runner-up team of head coach Matt
Moore, and assistant coaches Andrew Thompson
and Scott Moore shot an even-par 36 for the
day, but could not close the gap on Team
Brown.
"This is a great time for our guys to
share in something outside of basketball,”
said Moore. "We have worked extremely hard
these past three weeks in conditioning and
this is a way to reward them for their
efforts.”
The Cougars will kick off their preseason
with a home exhibition game against Athletes
in Action on Wednesday, October 21, at 6:30
p.m.
