The Mount Vernon Nazarene
University women’s soccer team was well
represented when the American Mideast
Conference honors were announced recently as
six players received recognition for the
conference coaches.

Mara Hughes, a senior defender from
Pickerington, Ohio, was named to the AMC
First Team for the second straight year. The
former Pickerington North High School
standout has helped anchor the Lady Cougars’
back line that has posted nine shutouts this
year. Hughes has also scored three goals and
been the AMC Defensive Player of the Week
twice.
Jessica Estep, a junior forward from
Mansfield, Ohio, joined Hughes on the AMC
First Team for the second consecutive
season. The former Madison High School star
leads MVNU with 10 goals this season and has
moved into fourth place in school history
with 52 career goals and 116 career points.
Estep has also been the AMC Offensive Player
of the Week once this year.
Angie Misamore, a senior defender from
Findlay, Ohio, was named to the AMC Second
Team for the second straight season. The
former Findlay High School product has
joined with Hughes on the solid back line
and leads the team by playing in 1488
minutes as she has been on the pitch for all
but eight minutes of the Lady Cougars’
matches this season. She has also been the
AMC Defensive Player of the Week once this
year.

Erin Miller, a senior midfielder from
Hilliard, Ohio, joined Misamore on the AMC
Second Team for the second consecutive
season. The former Grove City Christian
School standout leads MVNU with five assists
this year and is one of four players on the
team to start all 16 matches. Miller has
moved into a tie for seventh place on the
Lady Cougars’ career assists list with 16.
Jenessa Loewen, a junior goalkeeper from
Gravenhurst, Ontario, was also named to the
AMC Second Team. The former Gravenhurst High
School product has started all 16 matches in
goal for MVNU and has posted a 0.73 goals
against average with seven shutouts. She has
also been the AMC Defensive Player of the
Week once this season.
Jessica Linger, a freshman forward from
Bexley, Ohio, was an AMC Honorable Mention
selection in her first season with the Lady
Cougars. The former Bexley High School star
has scored four goals including three
game-winners this year to go with two
assists. She has been named the AMC
Offensive Player of the Week once.
MVNU is currently 10-5-1 overall and
finished second in the AMC with an 8-3
conference mark. The Lady Cougars, who are
the No. 2 seed in the AMC Tournament, will
play a semifinal match on November 13 at
Houghton (N.Y.) College at 1:15 p.m. against
an opponent that will be determined as the
result of the two AMC Tournament first round
matches that take place this weekend.
Houghton, the No. 1 seed, received the other
first round bye and will play in the other
semifinal at 11:15 a.m. The championship
match is set for noon on November 14 with
the AMC Tournament winner receiving an
automatic berth into the NAIA National
Championship Opening Round on November 21.
